Interactive Maps

Data and map layers used in these applications are normally updated weekday mornings sometime between 7:30am and 8:00am. The applications will be unavailable for approximately five minutes while the new information is loaded.

Interactive maps require Netscape Navigator 6.2 or later, or Internet Explorer 5.0 or later to view. The software on which these maps are built is not certified for use on a Macintosh computer. Mac users with an operating system of version 10.4.8 or higher and the Safari browser of 2.0.4 or higher report being able to access the maps with no problems.

Rapid City general map: Map showing various features in the Rapid City area, such as schools, hospitals, and parks.

Pennington County general map: Map showing various features in the County, such as highways, towns, and streams. The USGS 1:24,000 Quadrangle maps are available if you zoom in far enough. You must manually turn these maps on in the "layers list." The map help has instructions for this process. The County map also includes "3-dimensional" shading.

Pennington County voting map: Voter precincts and polling locations for the County. This map also has Rapid City wards, Box Elder wards, Hill City wards, Wall wards, County Commission districts, school board districts, and legislative districts. The wards are turned on when the map starts. If you want to see the Commission, school or legislative districts, turn off the ward layers so they don't cover up the other layers. Please see the help files available with the map for instructions. This map has been updated with polling location information for the June 2008 Rapid City election. The map other layers in the map are current for this election with the exception of the Rapid City annexations from the second half of 2007. These annexations are currently (mid-March 2008) going through the City Council process of being assigned to precincts. The process should be complete in April 2008.

Pennington County census information: Map showing the 2000 Census of Population and Housing information for Pennington County. Data available include the 100% population and housing counts for the census blocks. The block map has been locally matched to orthophotos. Errors may exist in the locations of some block boundaries.

Rapid City area survey monuments: Primary and secondary control points in the Rapid City area. These points were surveyed using the GPS.

Rapid City area data grid: Map showing the locations and file names for Rapid City area digital orthophotos, elevation contours, and hydrograpy.

Pennington County area data grid: Map showing the locations and file names for Pennington County area digital orthophotos, elevation contours, hydrography, and scanned USGS maps. All data shown by this grid are from the USGS.
